A Trojan’s First Walk; How to Make Your First Day Your Best First Day Ever
The first day of school is always a new, but familiar feeling. Frantic faces and confusing hallways are to be expected. However, there are a few things you can do to make your first Trojan walk the best first day ever!
1. MANAGE YOUR TIME!!!
Time management in college is by far the hardest thing to do for those new to college. This is a KEY survival skill in college. It often defines the successful verses the unsuccessful.
2. RELAX
Relax! This is the first day of a completely new life. Don’t spend it stressing! You have the ability to make today great and accomplish things. Relaxing allows you to have a leveled head and helps you maneuver the crowds.
3. Be open to CHANGE.
Although we all miss home, remember that new chapters in life mold us into who we are. Be open to new experiences during your time at Troy. Your college experience is really up to you. What memories do you wish to look back on after graduating?
4. Print your schedule early!
Remembering your schedule takes time. It may take you 4 or 5 class days to remember you class routes. Be patient with yourself. By printing your schedule out early you are ahead of the game! Troy University offers an app where you can access your schedule. This is a great option, but I recommend keeping a paper copy in case your phone dies. Finding plugs for your phone is a sacred art on campus and I wouldn’t want you stranded
5. Walk the campus before your first day.
I know most of you are rolling your eyes at this one. Although you have probably toured before, re-walk the campus. This gives you an opportunity to see new details you may not have seen before. Make this something fun to do by inviting friends!
*PRO TIP (bring your schedule on this walk so you can map out the fastest route for you!)
6. Go to financial aid your first week of school.
A lot of you will be using financial aid to pay for college. It is EXTREMELY important that you check in with financial aid each semester to insure your FASFA is correct. You aid will not be disbursed if there is missing information on your FASFA. Troy has an awesome financial aid department, so getting in contact with your representative should be easy!
I hope these tips help you make your first day at Troy University your best first day of school ever.
