One Troy: Fitness and Wellness

As Trojans, we pride ourselves on being “One Troy” in mind, spirit, and body. Troy University understands that a healthy body must be maintained in order to win the war called college. Troy University’s Fitness Center has opened new doors in the world of student health and wellness.

The 25 million dollar establishment was built over the course of two years. It is fully equipped to support activities like basketball, spin classes, aerobics, weight training, an outdoor pool area, and a multi-level track area. In addition to these sports areas the new fitness center includes several study\ common areas for students as well as a health conscious snack bar.

The Student Government Association spearheaded the efforts to get the new fitness center accomplished, which was achieved through charging students a $100 Recreation fee ($50 for summer enrollees) that began in 2016.

Located on the eastern edge of campus the new fitness center is located on the corner of University Avenue and George Wallace Drive. The center is open from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. to ensure that students have enough time to get a work out in during their busy school and work lives.

The new recreation center on campus is not Troy’s only effort to maintain the mind body and spirit of its students. Intramural teams are often a huge part of their efforts to promote student health. The women’s basketball intramural team just recently finished a 16 game season where each team was able to go head to head for the win.

The Natatorium is a bit older, but still home to several Troy University khp and fitness classes is also home to an older, more Olympic style swimming pool tht students have access to for both fitness, and recreational swim.

For sports that can’t be done in the pool or on a court, the intramural fields are the place for them. Although the intramural fields are not open for public use, it only takes an online request on the my.troy.edu website to gain access to the fields.

Keeping ourselves strong and health as individuals allows us to be the best we can be in and out of the classroom. Every Trojan is responsible for making their journey the best one it can be. Why not be as healthy as you can?
