Move-in Day!
Congratulations!
Today is your first official day as a certified TROJAN! The journey to college
has been hard, but you’ve got this. When you arrive on campus take a deep
breath and know that you deserve to be here.
At
this point, you have been assigned roommates (if you did not request a friend)
and have received your dorm placement. There is no true way to be 100% ready
for move in day, but we will discuss a few things that can help.
What
you don’t know is…
If
you are unhappy with the dorm you were assigned MOVE DAY starts the first day
of class and last a week. Here, you are able to choose other accommodations,
space provided. You would make this request at the housing office.
Cable
is no longer provided on campus at Troy University (bummer right?). Investing
in a smart TV or even streaming devices like Roku TV, or Firestick would be
wise. Gamming consoles are also a plus.
Troy
University allows students to bring small appliances with CLOSED heating
elements. Items like toaster ovens and crock pots may be helpful to you (only
if you make yourself cook!)
TROY
HAS ONE WAL=MART! Please double and triple check your list. It is not uncommon
for Wal-Mart to sell out of things on move in day and the following week.
Surrounding cities like Montgomery (about 45 minutes north) and Enterprise
(about 30 minutes south) are your best shopping options.
What Can
I Bring?
Troy
University’s official website provides an awesome list of items that students
are allowed to bring with them on move in day. This information helps new
Trojans be proactive with their move in experience. These are a few things that
came in handy when I moved in on campus. You SHOULD Bring;
·
Microwaves
600-800 watts
·
Mini-Fridge
1.7cubic ft-2.4 cubic ft
o
Some
roommates share these items!
·
TV
(Cable Not Provided, Smart TVs Only)
·
Clothes
hanger (you’d be surprised by how many people forget these!
·
Rain
coat
·
Dishes
and utensils
These are
frequently forgotten items!
What
CAN’T I Bring?
·
No
nails or screws may be put in the walls
·
No
stickers on furniture, walls, ceilings, or other Housing property
·
No
3M Command Strips
·
No
candles, no incense
·
No
extension cords (most people don’t follow this one…)
Overall,
your move in experience is up to you, make the best of it!
