New Student Orientation; IMPACT!
You’re almost to move in day! Your final steps to campus are on the horizon. Now that we’ve picked housing and a meal plan, we must discuss IMPACT!
What is IMPACT?
IMPACT is Troy University’s summer orientation sessions. The goal of impact is to prepare new Trojans for their experience at Troy. All sessions must be scheduled in advance. Freshman sessions are $85 and Transfer student sessions are $45.
*This information is mainly geared toward Freshman Sessions.
*IMPACT session registration is not open for Summer 2020 but sessions fill up fast! Make sure you are visiting the troy.edu website for session dates and how to register
Who can attend?
Any newly enrolled Troy University student is required to have attended one IMPACT session. Troy also encourages the families of these new Trojans to attend IMPACT so we can help your transition as well.
What should I expect?
IMPACT Orientation is a weekend event. Students will check in at the Trojan Village dorms. Here, they will spend the weekend making life long memories. Check in will happen on a Friday and the Following Sunday students will be allowed to check out.
Two Impact leaders are assigned to a group of 25-30 students and are tasked with guiding them during this three day experience.
What Happens at IMPACT?
During each session students will learn from Troy University faculty and staff about the endless possibilities at Troy. This Includes;
• A Freshman Crash Course
• The Oracle (Troy’s code of conduct)
• Taking a tour
• Registering for classes
• Meeting with student organizations
• Placement Test (English and Math)
• Meeting with academic departments
Other fun things like a trip to Camp Butter and Egg are included in Impact sessions. Students and their assigned groups are able to compete for bragging rights in relay games and tug of war.
What Should I bring to IMPACT?
Remember that you will be staying in a dorm for the three days that you are at Impact so sheets and a blanket (sleeping bag?) are HIGHLY recommended! Here are some other pro-tips and items you may want to bring!
• WATER BOTTLE!!(Alabama summers are HOT, please stay hydrated!)
• A book bag/Cross body bag (you will receive a load of papers and flyers that are great resources, a backpack will help you stay organized.)
• Paper and Pen (taking notes is something you will be doing for the next four- or more years, start early!)
